About us

Meet Your Hosts:

Alexandra & Olaf We are Alexandra and Olaf – your hosts at Varel Harbor.

With a love for detail and a passion for design, we have created unique holiday accommodations in a charming, historic building. Alexandra Mergili is a jewelry designer and runs her own gallery on the ground floor of the house. Her artistic touch is reflected throughout the space: each holiday apartment is thoughtfully decorated with bold color contrasts, carefully selected materials, and custom-made furniture. Our goal is to offer more than just a place to stay – we want to create an inspiring and cozy atmosphere where you can relax, feel at home, and enjoy the special character of this beautiful harbor town.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Rules

House Rules

Dear Guests, We want our holiday apartment/holiday home to feel like a second home for you – a place where you can relax and enjoy your stay. We have put a lot of thought and care into furnishing the space and hope that you will find everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant visit. The following house rules are intended to help ensure a smooth and harmonious stay. We've also listed a few guidelines that we kindly ask you to observe. By treating the apartment with care, you help us continue to offer a welcoming and well-maintained space for you and future guests. Thank you for your understanding – and enjoy your stay!

General Information

If you find anything missing from the apartment/house or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. All items in the holiday apartment/house or on the terrace are there for you to use and enjoy. We kindly ask that you treat all furnishings and inventory with care and respect. Please also ensure that your fellow guests follow the rental terms as well.

Kitchen

Please handle the kitchen equipment and appliances with care. As nobody enjoys a dirty kitchen, we kindly ask you to return dishes, pots, and cutlery to the cupboards only when they are clean and dry. Do not place hot pots or other heated items directly on the table or countertops—please use a trivet or heat-resistant pad. Always use a cutting board when chopping food. Please leave the oven clean after use.

Damages

We understand that accidents can happen, and no one damages things on purpose. If something breaks or gets damaged, please let us know as soon as possible so we can address it—rather than discovering it after your departure during the final cleaning. The tenant is responsible for any damage up to the replacement cost.

Ventilation

To prevent mold, we kindly ask you to ventilate the rooms regularly—at least once a day with a 5–10 minute airing. This is especially important after showering.

Duty of Care

We ask our guests to treat the property with care and ensure that fellow travelers also comply with the rental conditions. Please always keep the front door closed and lock it with a key when leaving the house. All windows must also be closed when leaving the apartment to prevent damage from storms or unauthorized entry. We also ask that you use water and electricity responsibly.

Waste

Disposal Please separate your waste into general waste, glass, paper, and packaging with the Green Dot symbol. Appropriate bins are available on the property. Please always use bin liners in the bathroom wastebaskets and dispose of them securely in the general waste bin. Do not dispose of waste, food scraps, or harmful liquids in the kitchen sink, toilets, bathroom sinks, or showers. Avoid anything that could block the pipes (e.g. do not flush hygiene products down the toilet).

Cleaning

If something spills or gets particularly dirty (e.g. liquids on the floor or countertops), please clean it up right away. We kindly ask that you leave the apartment broom-clean on departure and return all used dishes to the cupboards, washed and dried.

Quiet Hours

To maintain a good relationship with our neighbors, please observe the local quiet hours: midday, nighttime, and Sundays. In the apartment itself, please respect quiet time between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

Internet/Wi-Fi

Our holiday apartment/house offers wireless internet (Wi-Fi). The access code can be found in the guest information folder, or feel free to ask us directly. Using your own Wi-Fi enabled device (laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.) is free of charge. You use the internet at your own risk; the hosts are not liable for any issues related to internet use. The Wi-Fi usage policy must be followed. For legal reasons, we kindly ask for your signature as confirmation of proper usage.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted inside the apartment/house. If you wish to smoke, please do so outside. The terrace on the right side of the house is available for this purpose. Please dispose of fully extinguished cigarette butts in the trash bin.

Pets

Pets are currently allowed and are charged at €7 per night.

Parking

Parking is located behind the main house. Drive up the driveway on the left and pass the gray garage on the right. The parking area is just behind it. Please note that providing a parking space does not constitute a custodial agreement. The landlord is not liable for any loss or damage to vehicles or contents, except in cases of intent or gross negligence.

Right of Entry

In the case of urgent repairs, it may be necessary for the hosts to enter the apartment without prior notice.

Keys

Please do not hand over the keys to anyone else. Lost keys must be reported immediately. Guests are liable for the cost of replacement.

Liability

The landlord is not responsible for the loss of valuables belonging to the guest(s).

Arrival & Departure

Check-in is from 3:00 PM or as arranged in advance. On the day of departure, we kindly ask that you vacate the apartment/house by 11:00 AM at the latest. You can leave the key in the door or return it to the “Zollamt” gallery. Please leave the apartment/house as you found it upon arrival. By completing your booking, you acknowledge acceptance of these house rules.

Thank you for your attention. We wish you a pleasant stay, lots of fun, relaxation, and rest. If you have any questions, we are always happy to help.
